Four types of speaking skills were showed today in the videos: slow and deep, fast and emotional, strong and passionate, and calm and passionate. The first speech is clear, but it made a smaller impact because the speaker was not passionate enough. The second speaker was passionate, but his pace was too fast so it was not easy to understand deeply. The third speech had lots of pauses and it had a slow tone, which was easy to understand. The speaker cared about his ideas and that brought a big impact. The forth speech was clam yet passionate at his main point. I like the third style the most because it gives the most impact on audience. It gives the audience time to truly understand the ideas delivered. This is the most suitable style for my speech because my speech contained a lot of information. I learned pausing in Obama’s speech and not caring about mistakes in Zach Wahl’s speech.

Between the four speeches, Obama’s speech resonate me. For me, the most memorable speech is also his. In his speech, he repeated many keywords such as “Are they just words?” His content really made me think about the fact “are they just words”. He gave strong points, evidences and lots of examples. I am inspired because he brought out an unique point that no one thought of before.

Since everyone finished the book, I will post this picture.
A drawing of the ending of "Of Mice And Men".
So sad... (Still using my old Lennie SMALL)

My drawing of cute Lennie SMALL~ (In a mouse costume!)
Poor Lennie, he just wanted to pet them...
(The paragraph was at the post before)

Lennie’s child-like acts showed that he had to stay with George, who is mature and responsible,  in order to survive like a normal man. He didn’t think enough before he started to do things, so one of George’s jobs was thinking for Lennie and stopping him if he was doing anything stupid. On the journey to their new workplace, Lennie gulped water straight from the river beside him because he was thirsty, not caring if the water was clean or not. George stopped him before he drank too much and checked the water condition. If Lennie was living on his own, he would drank as much as he would take and got sick. The most important role George had was to get Lennie out of troubles. In Weed, Lennie touched a girl’s dress but the girl squawked. Lennie was confused and all he could think of is to hold on tighter. George heard the screams and came to get Lennie off the girl. He found a hiding place and hid in there with Lennie. If George wasn’t near Lennie, he would not know what to do and got beat up by other people. George was Lennie’s second brain and only troubleshooter, Lennie could not survive without him.

Slim is the most practical character. He doesn’t care about people’s feelings and all he thinks is the farm. He drowned his dog’s puppies after birth without hesitations because he knows that his dog could not feed that many puppies. Everyone likes Slim because he was nice and leader-like; however, he would only do things for the farm’s good.

All people have their own dream, but only a few of them could be granted. Many people give their time, money and effort to their dream, but couldn't get it because one factor is missing. People who were in poverty defiantly have harder time to receive the dream than rich people since they can't even keep up with their needs. “Walking with everyone else” is a dream that can’t be accomplished.

I think the story has a strong conflict since Mathilde’s life changed completely from middle class to poverty when she lost the diamond necklace. The ending was unexpected because she worked so hard to pay the debts. Mathilde’s character is greedy and arrogant. The irony ending showed all her hard works were not necessary if she didn’t have the massive amount of pride. If she is happy with what she had, she would have a normal and happy life. On the other hand, I as a female understand why she is greedy. Everyone wanted to have better things and lives, she is the same. Even though she wanted jewels and dresses, she is an honest woman and paid for what she lost without any other thoughts. Overall, I think she is not as disgusting as others think.
